It seems the May bank holiday has been a bit of a right off in terms of weather (hoping for a better day tomorrow), but there were a few signs of movement when the weather turned. In Brands Bay today there was a Curlew Sandpiper (rare spring visitor to Poole Harbour) and a Little Tern there too, with a Roseate Tern on the Brownsea Lagoon yesterday. At Lytchett Bay there were 3 Spoonbill, 9 Greenshank, 4 Ringed Plover, 10 Dunlin, 1 Yellow Wagtail a whopping 166 Shelduck, 28 Black-tailed Godwit and a Whimbrel. Swineham had a nice list with Cuckoo, 2 Whimbrel, 1 Marsh Harrier, Bearded Tit, 10 Swift, 20 Sand Martin, 2 Sedge Warbler, 5 Reed Warbler and 3 Reed Bunting. On Brownsea the Sandwich and Common Terns are starting to court and can be seen on the breeding islands and there are still at least 6 Avocet there too. Up on Hartland there were 2 Cuckoo a Hobby and a Whinchat.
