We’ve had plenty of decent common or regular autumn migrants so far this month with Wood Sandpipers, Ruff, lots of Ospreys still, Whinchats, Redstarts etc, but things are hotting up slightly with Sundays Glossy Ibis being the first (new) rarity of the autumn (excluding the Forster’s Tern), and today we finally saw the first autumn Wryneck of the year with an individual seen briefly along the Tramway at Hartland Moor mid-morning, soon followed by a Red-rumped Swallow (both found by the same observer) up on Hartland Stud, along Soldiers Road. This shows whats lurking out there, and with plenty of autumn migration still to go, who knows what else the harbour might turn up. There were also 28 Yellow Wagtail feeding with cattle along Soldiers Road and a Hobby was hunting Common Barn Swallows. There are still 4+ Osprey around with 3 in Lytchett Bay this afternoon with other sightings of individuals in Middlebere, Brands Bay and the Wareham Channel. The White-tailed Eagle pair were in Lytchett Bay this afternoon along with a Red Kite and Marsh Harrier. There was a full adult male Marsh Harrier in Middlebere this afternoon, a Cattle Egret at Swineham and a Green Sandpiper there too. The Forster’s Tern was at Shipstal again today.
